I had a straight walled stainless steel pot sitting in my garden that I use to use for logwood die. I've been using it to cover a tomato plant at night. It had 8" of water in it and I can't see any taper on the sides. I've read that a rain gauge with less than a 4" opening isn't accurate and that pot makes me believe it.
