I thought this might be a Democrat stunt to keep the unemployment numbers inflated. Perhaps it’s not. I'm pretty confident that was what they were hoping for. ASSISTANCE should never pay more than what you can actually earn.

ASSISTANCE should never pay more than what you can actually earn. Yep. The goal isn’t to help, it’s to hinder those that got laid off from getting back in the work force. A lot of folks that were laid off from hourly wage positions would be better off riding unemployment as long as possible under that provision. The whole goal is to destroy the talking point Trump had of the low unemployment numbers with that provision. They need to scrap the whole thing and start over. If they can’t pass a clean bill at a time like this, then it’s time to kick the whole lot out of Congress.

My wife and I own a small business. I pretty much run it but she draws a paycheck and pays unemployment taxes. Theoretically, we could lay her off and she could draw unemployment of $600 plus her normal unemployment so she'd be raking in about $800 per week. I'm pretty sure there are no-no's for doing this and I'm sure we won't do it but it may be worth looking into.

yeah, but among us hasn't offered an unskilled laborer what he was worth only to be told he could make more on unemployment. That would increase it ten fold.

If I understand what you're saying, that is happening now. If you draw food stamps, welfare, and all the other perks of being a bum along with not having to pay daycare for multiple kids, why would you work for $7-8 per hour.

Just asking here because I haven’t read up on it. So, my wife that was working one day a week, making $240.00 a day (before taxes), but was laid off due to all this, can now make $600.00 per week unemployment if this passes? Insane.
