Clocks were very valuable back then as were mules. I did some research on one of my great great grandfathers who served in the 15th Alabama. When it came down to him collecting his meager Civil War pension from the state of Alabama, he had to list everything he owned. The 3 most valuable things he owned was the 40 acers in Kendrick Springs, a mule and a clock. If i remember correctly, the mule was worth as much as the land, and the clock was worth almost as much as the mule.
