Yep...I used to be bad about getting bummed out and down on myself if I didn't find any action by 930-10am (the land I was hunting closed at 12 or 1 anyway. But then I killed a bird that never made a peep until just after 11am, and now I have access to a property that I can hunt all day, so........can't kill 'em if you're not with 'em

I'e found they can be easiest to kill in the evening. Problem is I've killed 95% of my birds in a state that ends the season at 1 pm.

But evening hunts mostly on dumb Rios and merriams probably skew my thinking.

I've killed most of my turkeys. The last few years. A little after 4 pm and a few between. 11 and 2 and I've killed a few. Right off the roost

I can skin a buck, and i can run a trot line, and a countryboy can survive

Jeez..the best action is AFTER 10 am. I have a friend that sleeps in and doesnt even go until 830 or so. I cant..I have to be out there early.

But gobblers get done breeding the hens and get lonesome after 10 when those old girls aint putting out anymore, and go checking that old gal thats been calling them all morning Ive found.

I'll stay after them as long as I can but unfortunately life usually dictates when I leave the woods. I actually got called in to work a couple of years ago and had to leave one gobbling just out of sight.

No work is THAT critical!!!
I could be the only paramedic on duty for the whole county and some poor bastard would be bleeding until I got that turkey!

Unfortunately every telephone and internet customer in Autauga and Dallas county went down that morning. It's amazing what one little bullet will do.

I love calling and getting a return but if not I’ll sit over a food plot with decoys all day. You want see them if your sitting at the house after morning hours.

that sounds miserable......I cannot abide deer hunting turkeys. Walk until you find one or run out of time.

Good friend of mine and the man who taught me most everything I know about turkeys used to walk MILES every day chasing turkeys. It was a running joke that he had seen every tree from both sides on every property he hunted. He cant walk like he used too anymore so he will set up in a blind on or near a food plot and call a little here and there. He still kills his share of them but not like he did for years. Works out pretty good for me. If he gets one that will answer him but wont come in, he tells me where he's roosting and where he goes when he flies down and I use his information to go kill him. thumbup
