Just an opinion on Petty from an outside, part of the time observer, he is either the best player on the court or the worse and it changes from night to night. He is very inconsistent which I imagine is what frustrates Oates to no end. I think that he just looks very laid back and this can give the impression that he doesn't care one way or the other which doesn't help his case either.
I also think he has matured and doesn’t force what’s not there. Vs AU, there was no driving the lane with Wiley in there. Dudes a tower to shoot over, so they rained 3s. However, I’ve seen it when the 3 wasn’t falling (KY game) he was aggressive at driving the lane.
Ive heard that he and Oats are very close, so there maybe somewhat of a father/son relationship and the friction that comes from that.
