The mileage piece is great new for some. It was not there last year. Hit me pretty hard on side business. Me too. It and another hiccup cost me $1K.

So like every year i do my taxes myself on turbotax online. Well no changes this year. 2k difference in my income. I made 2k less due to health down time. So i did my taxes and im getting about $1500 less this year! Im pissed. .Did anyone else know why im getting screwed? Im pretty dissappointed. I support 1 kid and my full time student wife. I get screwed while the folks with 5 kids and a house wife make a fortune. I wonder why im getting way less this year?
I have checked it over and over. Im gonna try H and R block online before i send it. It gets old working for everything i have and see illegal children get free healthcare while we get denied Allkids. We are broke cause my wife is a student while her friends with 5 kids and no education or job gets 10k? Thats whats wrong with this country as well. The average joe just trying to have a simple life is getting screwed the most. My wife does not have a job outside of the house, as she is home taking care of our 6 kids, well 5 now that I have one in college. I am still stroking a check for about $3800.... Getting anything back sounds pretty good to me. Jeremy

I agree with y'all that getting a big refund isn't good, but you wouldn't be getting much interest on that $1,000 during the year. 1% equates to $10, and after taxes more like $7. Stroking a check at the end of the year isn't fun either. Would not even be that much; you don't have the $1000 at the start of the year. Really not that big a deal

After paying the state, I’ll have a grand total of a $12 refund. I can live with that

In my perfect utopia I owe the Feds $1.00 and I owe the state $1.00. True. If you're getting big refunds, you're doing it wrong. I owed Alabama exactly $1.00 this year and was thrilled. I did get a large return from Feds because of having a child near the end of the year. Already changed my withholding to try and lessen the refund. I'd prefer to see it in my month to month paychecks.

I think this was more of Jake's gripe than the actual money. Friends baby momma sitting at home cranking out kids and gets a fat "return" check on taxes that weren't even paid in. Chaps my ass too that deadbeats, stay at home, whoever don't work and pay taxes and get a fat check for what? You didnt make any money to pay taxes on why in the hell do you get a return. Oh yea, just like entitlemants.

One thing I never considered much when becoming a business owner was taxes. I expected that my taxes would go up significantly, but wasn't expecting the joys of the quarterly installments just to keep the final bill somewhat affordable. #TaxationIsTheft

I get a pretty good refund every year even though I claim the max in dependents, trying to get as much of my check as I can. It’s because I’m commission based and get a small salary check 3weeks of the month then get commission on the 4th week. The government views the difference in pay as a bonus which gets taxed higher, but then gets straightened out at the end of the year. I’ve asked four different accountants if there is anything I can do to change this and they have all said no. If anyone has any suggestions or experience in this, I’m all ears.
