Honestly I should say just organize my tools. Instead going back to my old toolboxes that have seen their better days. I was thinking of going with a couple of those widemouth bags. I say I’m a joke of all trades and master of none. Don’t use these to make a living. Having an 80 year old house and 5 kids though I keep pretty busy. Also do woodworking as a hoppy. I’m thinking I could mechanic and tools in one bag and woodworking and electric tools in the other. There is some overlap for all but need some kind of simple system. Any suggestions based on what works for y’all

This is what I do now. I’ve got about five of them. I just find the tools I need put them in the bucket do the job and they stay there until I pull some out for the next job. Works fine around the house but when I need to do something outside the house it gets to be a pain. I do have one of those covers that fits over the bucket that helps though. Maybe I’ll just get a couple more of those. Socket sets are the worst for me. I’m just not in the habit of putting each one back where it goes every time so i just dig through a rub u til I find what I’m looking for (unless it’s a 10mm or 3/8, then I just go buy another one because those things seem to just walk away.

10-4. Thanks for advice. Was just just looking for something easier to get around than my heavy old tool boxes. They are heavy when their empty. Buckets may just be be what I need to stick with.

I use tool pouches similar to bank cash bags. One for screwdrivers, one for standard wrenches, 1/4" sockets and ratchets, one for pliers, dikes so on. You get the idea. they all go either in a bucket or biog tool bag.

Okay that’s a joke or you must have been military trained to be that organized

Pretty sure it’s just a pic from the interwebs. Yeah I think the “Homeowner” title at the bottom kind of gives that away.

I have 2-toolboxes. One of them is reasonably well organized (mechanics tools i.e. sockets, drivers, wrenches...etc). In that box I can find something in a matter of seconds. The other one, pisses me off every time I have to find something - pliers, wire cutters, screw drivers, various low voltage or cable testers, volt meters..etc. I have tried to make it better, but it is basically a dump tool chest.

I have triplets of every tool I own due to using bags for tools. It all started with, I need a set of tools to bring to the club just in case this happens to tractor, the camper, the 4 wheeler. I still can’t find any of them

Yeah, that's too clean! lol It's just a pic of those white boards and hang on cabinets....(the type I have on one wall only) But yeah, 20 years of aviation maintenance does affect a person.

Ten years in the seabees, I learned how to build a new generator from ammo cans and scrap copper, using only a bayonet and broken lug wrench. I've got homemade tools built from other tools that were never intended for that purpose. And all my tools are organized with a unique system that I like to call... Random.

Tool bags suck. You can never find what you are looking for unless you dump everything out. This...worse thing ever Indeed!
