I saw a 4 lb or so bass and a bunch of eating size bream in a drainage canal that parallels I-65 and runs under Airport Blvd in Mobile. I've thought hard about looking for places like that to catch fish.

Caught a few one night at a pull off on Dauphin Island Pkwy just N of the Dog River bridge. Saw a good many in a retention pond behind Target in Gulf Shores just N of The Track. There are literally HUNDREDS of those kind of ponds around Baldwin and Mobile County.

I don't think hitting some of these spots will be as serious as Hunting Without Permission, but I wonder. I'm gonna try the forgiveness instead of permission philosophy and see how it goes. I'll report back.

I had thought about taking bags and picking up trash around the ponds before I start fishing. If they see me doing something worthwhile, maybe they'll take it a little easier on me. What do y'all think? Besides that I'm a dirty, trespassing poacher, which I'm sure is the first thought that came to you.

That's me brother. In High School I was a Charter Member of the Yellow Line Hunting Club. Mainly I see this as an untapped resource. The retention ponds around subdivisions I thought about trying to do a small side business with. Buy a small plastic boat like they sell at Academy, and offer to clean trash from the pond banks and whatever's floating. Then just catch a few fish while I'm doing it.

I know where you are talking about. I ran on those roads when I lived in mobile. I would also stop and check out the bass in the canals...especially that one that ran along michael where it ran into the dog river at Montlimar. I fished dog river in a boat a few times where it opens up to more of a lake. I never really figured out the tides I guess, because I never caught more than dinks.

I fish a many retention ponds in south Florida with a buddy of mine years ago. Seemed like every parking lot had one. They were full of peacock bass and gar. Peacocks are a mean fish.

I was down there last October and we caught largemouth, peacock's and snakeheads. Little ponds everywhere full of fish. Snakeheads are mean little azzs.

I have a couple spots like that, behind a certain shopping center. I ALWAYS catch fish there.
Have several more places I haven't tried yet. I've never had any trouble.

I've been thinking about hunting interstate medians lately. I may try your carring a bag of trash trick.

Saw a decent buck dogging a doe between the Bay Minette and Stockton exits on I 65 Friday night. In the median, of course.
