Would bucks be dropping antlers and losing interest in chasing does already? I saw 6 deer feeding at a plant I was working at yesterday in Jefferson Co. They all appeared to be does and were about 300 yards away. One of them was absolutely huge though. Even the other guys I was with were commenting about how big she was. I mean, just comparing her size to the others, we guessed she had to be 200 lbs. I got to wondering later if it could have been a buck that had dropped it’s antlers already and was just done chasing. If not, it was definitely the biggest doe I’ve ever seen.

Possibly in North Alabama but it would be unlikely for any bucks to be dropping now. If they're losing antler right now, it's been broken off.

My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

Yea where i'm at we always stopped shooting does mid January because 1. they're pregnant and 2.could be a buck without horns...… of course now the state made it even easier by adding 3. they're not in season.

The positive is it makes it really easy to shed hunt.

Anywhere south of Bham, it is more likely for them to keep them until late March/ early April. Plenty of chasing will take place in March around here. Saw a fine 8 chase a doe across the road about M25 a couple years ago.

From Bham north and along the eastern portions of the state it’s not uncommon to be dropping now
