a 25/05 with a good 100 gr bulllet at 3200+ is 10x the killer a 243 or 6.5 will ever be. And very little recoil. By far my favorite greenfield gun of all time.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

308, dont hunt with one but hands down the best for low recoil kill power

What brand and weight bullet you 7-08 does your gun pattern best? I can tell you the brand and bullet that I cannot even consistently hit the target with out of multiple makes of 7mm-08. Hornady superformance 139 gr. sst will spray everywhere out of every 7mm-08 I have.

Ruger M77 Mark II. 308 compact with a muzzle break. It literally does not kick but it’s loud. I prefer 7mm-08 but there’s really not much difference in the two.

if shots would be max 150 yds, you might consider the 7.62x39 in a bolt action, plenty of cheap ammo to practice with. the new 350 Legend looks interesting. Ron I just read an article on the 350 legand and that does look interesting.

There's a wide gulf between a .243 and the 30-06 at 200 yards or less. I have probably used most of them at one point or another. A 7X57, also known as 7mm mauser, would be given high marks. Like a down-loaded .270 is the best way I can describe it. A 6 mm rem is basically a "hot" .243 so that maybe a consideration, too.
