The latest speculation is that a Russian missile took it down What is it that fuels that speculation, if you know? They were showing pics of one of the wings on the news this morning, and it had holes in it consistent with an impact of some type...other than with the ground. Also, I saw amateur Iranian video on twitter yesterday that almost assures it was brought down my a missile. Video showed the flare of the missile's exhaust going up....then there was a mid-air explosion...followed by a flaming object falling toward the ground...followed by an explosion when the object hit the ground.

I really don't know if it was a Russian or an Iranian missile that brought it down, but the video was pretty compelling. Of course, it was shot from a long way away and wasn't timestamped, so there is the possibility that what the video shows is not what happened anyway. What I do know is that Tehran airspace was "closed" at that time, and the jet wasn't even supposed to be taking off.

WTH is 63 Canadians doing in IRAN? Most were Iranians who had immigrated to Canada and therefore had Canadian citizenship and therefore the media just refers to them as Canadians in blanket fashion.

Media screwed the story up. Russians did not and would not shoot it down. The Iranians did - accidentally (most likely an accident) with S-300 anti-aircraft missiles supplied by Russian/Kremlin/Putin.

Tons of pics showing all kinds of shrapnel holes in the aircraft.
Also there is a pic showing what is clearly the back half of a missile lying on the ground.
All taken by local Iranians and posted to their social media.

Russia supplies BUK anti-aircraft missile battery to its stooges in the Donbas and they shoot down MH-17 over eastern Ukraine thinking
it was a Ukrainian military plane.
Russia supplies S-300s to Iranian Mullahs and they shoot down a Ukrainian airliner taking off from their own capital's airport.

Didn't read the thread, but pretty sure a Russian made Iranian fired missle took down that plane. Iran's ashamed and are working to cover it up. Bulldozed the site prior to allowing foreign investigators to come visit.
Been here long enough to go from "bring 'da pain" to " bring 'da pain meds.
