Thought about coming to AL to hunt since our season ends today. I have a lifetime license, but figured I may need a baiting license to be safe depending on who I hunted with. Even though I have a lifetime license, I have to buy an out of state baiting license. $50 instead of $15. wtf Alabama? Is $50 going to make me go broke? No, but I bought the lifetime license so I didn’t have to deal with non resident costs if I wanted to come back to my home state to hunt.

If you are planning on hunting public you don’t need one. Baiting is not allowed on public.

Yep, $50, but it is about $1,000 if you don't buy it and get caught.

I get it, so do a lot of people but, that's the law now either buy one or don't, hunt either over bait or not, take a chance or not. We have a constitution that says we have a right to bear arms but yet we still have to purchase a ccw.

I hunt my own land and am exempt from a license. That being said I always felt it was my duty to buy one anyway. That was until this year with all this baiting permit crap. Ill never buy another Alabama hunting license. SCREW THE GOVERNMENT!!!!!!!!

Common sense IMO, you're not a resident so you pay as a non resident. If you pay resident license fees where you reside, it would technically be illegal since you can only be a resident of 1 state. youre getting what you paid for, lifetime Alabama hunting. Hunting over bait is a choice.

Why not? He's not a resident and he's already getting what he paid for...

It is a bunch of BS. When I bought my life time, I didn’t think I’d ever have to shell out an more cash, but I did for me and 2 grandchildren. How about that for BS!

It is BS that a permit must be bought for kids that aren't old enough to need a license.

Not requiring anyone 15 or younger to purchase a hunting license but requiring them to pay for this "baiting privilege" is nothing but a money grab and attempt to jack the numbers for federal license excise tax money. It's akin to fraud.

I still maintain my belief that within a few more years we'll have required licenses for teens, like age 10-15, as a "junior license" along with segmented weapons fees for centerfire, muzzleloader, bow and crossbow. Too much money being left on the table to not go after these things.

Lot of other possibilities for mandatory fees. Fishing guides could be hit with an annual state fee. Lot of hunting lodges and guides, too.

Do other conservative state administrations routinely increase mandatory fees and impose mandatory regulations? I thought those things happened only in liberal states like California, New Jersey, New York and Illinois.

Yeah, I'm starting to think our Republican reps aren't to conservative. Just big government rhinos.

I recently became a Mississippi resident. I have a lifetime Alabama license and I own property in Alabama and pay taxes on it. I know some may disagree but I think it’s bs that I have to buy a non resident baiting permit.

Same here. In fact, I think if you got a ticket for not having a baiting "privilege" permit, you could take it to court and win. The lifetime license entitles you to all hunting privileges for the rest of your life in Alabama. And that's what you paid for. If they started requiring a bow and arrow permit, would that be excluded too? It's silly.

Think of it this way. If the state "took away" certain hunting privileges, would they give you a fraction of your money back? No. So why should you pay more for more privileges?

I agree making kids buy the baiting license is 100% a money grab by the state.

I can see Alabama developing a license system similar to Tennessee to get more money from us. Tennessee is what you described weapons fees for each season bow, gun, muzzleloader, doe permit, but do have the sportsman license that covers everything. They also have a junior license that has to be purchased for youth age 13 to 16 that’s around $42 per year. Hunter safety is required by age 10 as well. The difference is Tennessee has twice if not three times the wardens and staff as Alabama.

I read forums a lot from hunting both states and no one will ever agree on buck limits, deer management, or how much the government charges us to enjoy the outdoors.
