Ya would think some of those real high roller hunters would buy their own property. That's a good point. Some people don't want the hassle..And they enjoy the camaraderie of being in a club.. Some good clubs in South FL are $10000 a year. That will be something like 1000 acres per member and 2 bucks allowed, along with hogs and turkeys. It's supply and demand. Not a lot of land down there. Even @ $10000 a year, how much property can you buy for an $800 a month payment? Sure you could buy a decent small piece, but not what the rich folks are used to. They want a big piece, close to home with a wildlife biologist on staff.

From reading this forum i feel really blessed. We have 2400 acres leased for round $3 a acre. Private landowner been friends with my ancestors for yrs. was only 4k total for yrs. never had a written lease. $600 a person for 10 of us. Just a handshake deal. Landowner never come around. His son turkeys hunts a bit. He uses it for timber sale income. Cuts little timber every yr an leaves me with fresh cutover to hunt yr after yr. family owns 800 acres next to it . Just family hunts on it . Costs nothing to hunt. I live next to this property. Never have drive my truck to hunt. Just walk or ride wheeler from house. Been thinking landowner would get wise to all the hunting lease prices an try do something different, but last yr told us we had it for next 10 yrs at same price. Unbelievable to me. I had a small 100 acres of timber company leased next to it at one time an they went to $12 acres an i dropped it . Thought that was outrageous but from reading this post i understand how really blessed we are as far as hunting. Timber company was from texas an said they based Lease price on average price in alabama. if i had pay over $1000 to hunt guess i would quit. Some people would rather have people they trust will take care of their property over money. They are few and far between these days unfortunately.
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

Exactly Neck, some will lease at a much reduced price to a small group that will take care and manage the property and not scorched earth hunt. I know I would.

Exactly right .We do take good care of property. I have picked up garbage that other people dumped, fixed gates, put out fires that people have set. Also brought dozer home to work on the roads that loggers torned up an built new plots. For no charge. We spend our on money on seed, locks, signs an that sort of thing.an we still getting a great deal.Landowner knows this. Tells me treat it like was mine an i do. Landowner only deals with me an dont have listen to any griping from hunters. We never really have any. We don t have any type of rules. We just try shoot older deer. I know this sort thing don t exist much nowadays.have people begging to hunt with us every year, but we just keep same few people with no problems.

I guess I'll just keep on hunting public land with the other poor folks. But I'd give my left nut to find 50 or 100 acres semi close to the house for my son to be able to hunt. Put in a greenfield or two and let him knock some down
We will burn that bridge when we get there

Camp creek in Braggs was like 2600 several years ago when my uncle got out. Extra 700-800 for a camper spot. But that was some prime land I hunted there as a kid when it was like $300, no extra cost for camper and there were plenty of hardwoods. Even been fields that held wild quail. When we first joined, it was a dog hunting club but changed to stand/stalk only not long after.

I’d rather have 5 acres of my own, than be in a lease and have to ask permission to do anything. But I’m weird like that. I can fully relate.

pretty cheap price Clem, that land is loaded with deer and turkey I thought it was pretty cheap, too, for what's there and to be close. Not like they have to drive 4 hours to property and find gates destroyed or clubhouse burned.

Just kidding. I'm not wondering. The guy obviously has the "right" connections.
