I currently shoot a mathews switchback xt and love it. I'm considering selling it and getting a mathews monster. Is anyone out there shooting one? Any opinions on the monster??? My fear is getting it and not liking it as much as I do mine.

Test drive one before doing it. The XT is by far the best bow for hunting situations. twocents

Well I've shot them and I like them. But test shooting and shooting all the time is a big difference. Just as target shooting and hunting are a big difference. Thanks for the input I think it would be hard to part with my xt.

The XT is one of the best hunting bows ever built IMO. I havent shot the Monster but I did draw & handle one. It looks cool, but that aside I wasnt impressed at all.

I have an XT and love it.The monster was designed to match the speed of the X-force PSE.The monster will be faster but it's got a jump in it I didn't like.It not smooth at all.But go shot one and see what you think.

I made the switch from the SQ2 to the Monster about 2 months ago. I did it for one reason only. 1 pin to 35 yards. With my setup I am shooting 326 FPS. The only thing I added to the bow was some mini limbsavers and some string silencers. This made the bow quieter and smoother than when I shot it at the bow shop. The bow is very smooth but not as smooth as the SQ2 because the SQ2 had zero vibration/recoil. You will give this up by going to the Monster but trust me it is not enough difference to matter. The only thing that took some getting used to was that it seemed harder to draw than my SQ2 (dual cam I suppose). After 2 months of practicing I don't regret the change at all. Go shoot it and make your decision from there.

I shoot an original Switchback and I tried out the Monster in the local shop...liked the speed, but hated the shock, noise and draw. One other thing really proved to me that the Monster wasn't a hunting bow... try letting it down smoothly after coming to full draw...Hang on!

The string and cable system on it is a nightmare. If someone brings one to me and wants a system built for it, they're going to pay dearly. laugh

Technically the Monster is made by McPherson since its a dual cam bow.I personally don't care how much shock my hunting bow has, I just want it to get to the kill zone quick and accurate. If I shot a lot of tournaments it might be different.

I love threads like these. If you are honestly wanting a new improved bow, why restrict yourself to one option. Why not go to a bowshop that has Mathews, Hoyt, BowTech, etc... and shoot them all and then pick the one you shoot the best regardless of name brand. Forget what your friends shoot and all the commercials.

If it turns out to be the Monster, then fine. But, if you end up with something else, you will be much happier in the long run and you will shoot more and better. And that should be your goal anyway.
