The two times I met John were nice and pleasant. He just wanted to know why I was running all over property in his county with a shovel. I assured him I was not burying dead bodies but digging them up. The first time I met we had that conversation and ate some fried chicken on my tailgate near Jackie Bushman's property. He kept up with folks in his county, and knew when there were outsiders there which is why he made a point of talking with me. I imagine he did that with just about everybody who wasnt local.
