Being a good neighbor is a great idea. If they are neighbors. I am talking about random assholes coming on to your property with no permission and no regard for your ownership. Any civilized person knows to ask permission. I would never take advantage of what someone else owns. As a kid, we would drive all over North Alabama asking s for permission to dove hunt and always got permission. I was taught to respect others and their property. I own property and lake property and would allow anyone who asked to use it. I am taking about complete random strangers using your stuff as their own. That is never acceptable! It is a total sign of bad upbringing and disrespect.
Hunting brings out the worst in people.

I've just been advising not loosing your temper at the initial confrontation. If they act in such a way that you have to be an ass, then that's on them. I just wouldn't get too upset over a couple of arrow head hunters who would likely apologize if you explained that you leased the land to deer hunt. All I was saying is that if you roll up on anybody and start in cussing and ranting and raving about them being on your land,it is likely to cause more trouble.

Something makes me feel that ole RH has either never had to deal with a scumbag trespassed/thief....or a poacher. Or could be that he enjoys trespassing himself every now and then. Either way, he is completely wrong in all of his assessments You would be wrong. Ya'll just continue on as usual.Sorry to try to introduce the concept of being a good neighbor. I don't think it means putting up a fence and shooting anyone who crosses it though. So would you be a good neighbor if I come into your house unasked? Its a 2 way street IMO. A GOOD neighbor would call and say.."Hey is it ok if I go look for some arrowheads?" As a GOOD neighbor, Id say "Sure...good luck". If youre on my property or in my house unasked...youre NOT a good neighbor, and I wont be either when I catch you. And no one but you mentioned shooting anyone for arrowheads. Quite a reach your making. I think they mentioned using the LAW regulating these things to prosecute the offending parties. Quite a difference. And please explain your Xenophobe question? Again far reaching. Were the trespassers illegal aliens crossing the border too?

So you don't think there's any difference between being inside your house and on a backwoods piece of property that you just leased? If you can't see the difference ,then I can't teach you what a good neighbor is.

Nope. Im paying for it so no I dont. Ive learned you give a trespasser any slack, youll see him or his friends again. Experience has proven that to me. I prosecute every trespasser...regardless of their story.
And still waiting on the xenophobic comment. Pretty sure you lost us all on that one.

The REAL question is how many of you goobers had to look up “xenophobic”? I guess we could be dealing with a foreign county rather than a foreign country.

I don't recall saying that they did. What I said was that to roll up on a couple of arrow head hunters on a piece of property that you leased acting like an ass wasn't a good idea. Then I suggested simply telling them that you had it leased was a better idea. Xenophobia is also a hatred or fear of strangers, not just foreigners. I suggested some of the attitudes can only come from a fear that someone is going to take from you something that is yours, that's Xenophobia.

It's not a "fear that someone is going to take something that is yours." I don't fear it. But I don't or wouldn't allow it if I caught someone on my property taking something.
I own it. Land, property, things, whatever. Anyone who comes onto property I own (or lease and have control of therefore) without permission is doing something illegal. Anyone taking anything is doing something illegal. Period. They should be told to leave.
If you think that's cool, let yourself be run over while trying to be a "good neighbor." Whatever. I and others choose not to do so.

You can't just walk into someone's house and just happen to find a box jewelry and walk off with it. Same goes for land and it dont matter what you happen to find on someone else's land. Those guys should be charged with theft of property, trespassing, and any other laws that equate to breaking in and theft.

I had to run off a couple picking up pecans today at my dad's house. Now I don't mind if anyone wants to pick up pecans, but at least come knocking on the door and ask. Then don't be belligerent when I confront you. Buried the bodies out back, huh?! Lol!

Those guys should be charged with theft of property, trespassing, and any other laws that equate to breaking in and theft. I agree! I own property, not much, but it's mine that I've worked for and anything found on it is mine. If someone comes and ask me if they can look for arrowheads I'd allow it if I knew and trusted that person. Everyone else can stay the hell away or face whatever charges I can press. As for being a badass and blowing the situation up that'll be decided by the trespassers actions. I've caught several over the years and have never had a situation. Be polite as long as it's possible but be prepared to take charge of the situation.

Society has definitely changed. I used to hunt with my Grandaddy anywhere we decided. We never had the police called on us, we never hid, but we never crossed any fences or hunted where it was posted. That's just how it was back then, it was magical and freedom was real.
Fast forward 40-45 years,,,,,me,me,me, mine, mine, mine. That's just how it is now. Amazing how things, people change.
