wow. if you add up all of the benefits, base pay etc. they are 6 figure employees and technically work part time in comparison to other professions.

They have a better retirement than our military and federal government employees. Military is eligible for the GI bill... teachers have to pay for their own degree. There sure as heck isn't anything called "teacher housing" and no food provided for teachers outside of some sort of PTO event. Also, the Military gets (albeit crappy) VA, teacher's insurance ends with their service. Apples and Oranges.

I didn't mention any of that other stuff.

About 10 years ago, I was offered a job with a federal department. The benefits were much better and the retirement was much better. The job I was offered, health insurance for family was included for free and you were fully vested in retirement after 10 years. The chart is correct. The only thing that doesn't show is the cost of health coverage goes up substantially once you retire.

How will a pension limit their SS earnings? The Government Pension Offset allows the SSA to reduce what you get from Social Security in the form of spousal or survivor benefits if you also receive a pension payment from public-sector employment. Unlike the Windfall Elimination Provision, the Government Pension Offset is aimed at what you'd otherwise be entitled to receive from Social Security based on someone else's work record, rather than the retirement benefits you generate from your own work there are some other rules. I have just had CPA's tell me it can be an issue. I am not old enough to check if it'll hurt me. They change the tax code too often.

Im on tier 2 retirement and i absolutely hate it...on tier 1 i could retire at 48, draw probly $12-1500 per month and put another 10-15 years on another job. Now, if i want to retire ive got to work here til im 62...which aint happnin...id have to wirk here for 40 years exaxtly to retire and draw anything.

It should have been a pension of 1.1% (after 10 years) of your high 3 salary average and for the thrift savings plan should have given 1% of your annual salary deposited into your retirement account, and up to 5% matching.

I don't remember specifically. It wasn't a GS level job type. It was with the federal office of public defenders.
