Good morning, this is a long shot and very short notice. I’m flying out tomorrow morning to meet a buddy and hunt some public land. He’s been up there since Saturday with little success at finding a decent conservation area. I’m not looking for honey holes or anything like that I just need to be pointed in the right direction as to a good area to start with. It’s gonna be short 3.5 day hunt so any information will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Pick up a phone and call a few game wardens in MO. They will point you in the right direction.

Find a wilderness and go way back away from the roads.

They used to let school out the week of rifle season. Always a ton of folks in the woods.

What area of the state are you going to?

I’m flying into St. Louis so not really worried about the drive. And yea I have thought about calling some of the biologist.

There is a lot of good hunting within a 2 hr. drive west to northwest to due north of Stl. I wouldn't pick a conservation area that has a lot of amenities nearby and you should be fine. (don't forget corps, nwr, and nf lands..(hint, hint). Bucks are really moving. Out of 14 guys our place (very close to stl) have shot 8 bucks (in 1st 3 days) with 5 being really nice ones for our area.

Saw a nice 12 pointer dead on the 40/64 bridge (clarkson rd) by chesterfield mall (1/2 mile from nearest grass) monday morning. So maybe just set up in the largest parking lot you can find in west county.
