No apology needed Paul. I didn't pick up your point in the previous post and I hope mine was not taken wrong. I meant no harm with it. I hate the whole thing happened with the kid. It goes on a lot more across the state than people are aware of. beers

They did it for the athletics. Unless the school has a policy to keep students from transferring in, the ahsaa doesnt. Coulda trans before 9th grade and not had to make a bonafide move. This is 100% on the school. Dad didnt play them...he just played the game. School played along with him. Kid knew what was going on too, i guarantee it.

I don’t know of any law the father broke. AHSAA rules are not laws.

IMHO, I think the parents should be fined for all legal, etc, cost. The parents clearly tried to defraud the school system, just as the parents in California paid all that money to get their children into colleges.

What about school system personnel who probably knew what was going on, that are paid by our tax dollars? Should there not be a measure of accountability for them?

A school nearby, supposedly has tried to stop
players from transferring in. They sure are making
alot of colleges happy, though.
Very few local JV players end up on the HS roster. A
large portion of the elite ransfer into town starting HS.
Local kids don't get a chance because the transfer
players are so good.

The top programs are all doing this to some degree. It all started with Hoover and now the others are catching up.

Players transferring is nothing new and didn't start with Hoover. It's been going on for 30-40 years or more, easily.

My junior year in HS, which was '82-83, we had a top athlete from a county school come JustThisClose to transferring in for his last two years. He would've been quite the addition, I think, and was a 3-sport guy. Spent some time with our team in summer workouts and hanging out. The transfer didn't happen, though.

You're right Clem, been happening for a long time. I think Hoover has certainly used it on a larger scale than other schools, but it is starting to balance out.

The consequence is supposed to be the student/athlete is ineligible for all ahsaa athletics for at least a year.

gman, that is insufficient, in my opinion. the athlete is minor child. the parents are responsible. sure, make the kid ineligible, but punish the parents, too ...

Back in my day, it seems that kids could choice into schools by paying a bit of a fee per month. Knew several kids that did it, and some played football. Did that change? Was it because of athletics? I would hate for a kid to be deprived of better resources (think academics as well as athletics) based on living past a drawn line.

You can...may cost you an out of district tuition/fee...but you could go to school. Its the athletics. If you live out of district for a school, you have to transfer before freshman year or you must sit a full year before becoming eligible for athletics.

No you don’t. If you make a bonafide move you don’t have to sit out a year. If you move before the beginning of the school year, you can play that year. If you move after school has started, you have to wait until the next year.
