Sunscreen is the New Margarine....

https://www.outsideonline.com/2380751/sunscreen-sun-exposure-skin-cancer-science#close

For those who can't read, basically what the new science is saying is that we need natural vitamin D from the sun (Can't get it from supplements.) and we need to get it by being out in the sun. Being out in the sun can also lower your blood pressure and other health benefits. Australia and New Zealand have already officially recommended their citizens to get certain hours of sunlight everyday, even int he summer. Those if us with light skin, eyes and hair can do with less sun, but we all still need it and more of it than you think you do.

Do we need sun exposure? Absolutely. Does excess sun exposure and sunburn cause skin cancer? Hell yes. There’s a fine line.

I'm covered in 100% cotton evry day now. Still get a tan through my shirt. Even those fancy pants fishing shirts let some of the sun through, actually about the same amount. Dont wear gloves and my neck line still gets a good tan with wearing a wide brim hat. That Sunnis bad for you

The benefits outweigh the risk of skin cancer. The only skin cancer that is truly bad for you is melanoma and it is actually fairly rare. Even among really white people. however it is all about being sensible about sun exposure. but the fact remains that we have been over taught about the inherent dangers of sun exposure and have become over cautious. Just like we became over cautious about fats in our diet and went off the deep en in the other direction.

I wouldn't go far to say that Melanoma is the ONLY bad skin cancer. My Father in Law died at age 57 due to Basal Cell Carcinoma that metastasized even after he had the "harmless" spots removed 30 years prior. I will say it's not common, especially since he did have the spots removed but they had already taken root elsewhere.

But saying all that I think being responsible in the sun is definitely smart and sometimes sunscreen is absolutely necessary. Just use your best judgement because you're the only one who knows what your body can handle and what it can't.
