Bought a nice little older model 7ss in 7 mm08 a few years ago for my little boy. It had a leupold vx1 and leupold standard base and rings and a Timney trigger, it shot ok.... but I was never really liked the set up or was impressed with its accuracy. Well I decided to totally punt on the scope and get a set of talley light weight extra low rings and a leupold VXR 3x9x40.
Really happy with the way it turned out. [Linked Image]
I think I am in love with how this little gun shoots. I Had two boxes of bullets. Both hornaday one light recoil light bullet and a 140gr the gun really liked both of them. Took three shots to get it dialed in. With these. [Linked Image]

4 th shot [Linked Image]
I let the barrel cool plenty for about five mins per shot.
Next I tried these [Linked Image]

This was the fifth and last shot I took. I am impressed with this little setup and can’t wait to shoot it a few more times. It will be a joy to tote this one into the woods.

I am not familiar with either of these bullets and have never hunted with them before. If anyone has hunted with either what were your results or were you pleased with their performance?

With that accuracy, it’s dead either way. My wife shoots a 7-08 with s VX2 leupold and it’s awesome. Great set up you got there. Post up his kill too!

Nice. I have the 50mm version sitting in a safe just waiting for a new rifle 😀

Got to shoot this little gun at the range yesterday, it was a great time to say the least. We put the same scope and rings on a buddy’s tikka t3 and it was a shooter also once we got it dialed in. I would show you her target but she was shooting a 6.5 creedmore and the target totally vaporized. laugh
I did get a pic of what the little model 7 did with the139gr interlocks. [Linked Image]

I’ve never tried a Hornady that didn’t shoot good in my 700.

Good shooting. They’re definitely handy little rifles. My turkey gun shoots a tighter pattern than my Model Seven SS 7-08 shoots those 139 grain interlocks, though. Lol

I shot those American whitetails in mine when I first got it just because they were cheap and to see how it shot and they grouped well, killed a few deer with it with no complaints. Tried a few different more expensive rounds and everything shoots well in my gun! It’s the ruger American, cheap gun but shoots amazing
