This ^^^^. Way more ways to score from 3rd than there is from 2nd. You don't need a big inning. You need 1 run. A good hitter is anyone hitting 300 or above but to lay down a blunt that advances the runner is not that difficult. If he only advances the runner 60% of the time (the percentage should be much higher than this) he's given his team a much better chance of scoring, either on a wild pitch, a sacrifice , a balk , a hit , or an error. If it were the 5th inning, swing away but when you only need 1 run in the 8th the decision seems easy, in my opinion.
