You got that right. Southern deer will run if you think about moving, but Illinois deer will almost let you do a few jumping jacks before you shoot them.

Can tell you what a 4 year old wild alabama buck roaming around places he really don't want to be will do when you say "meah" he will hall arse. The one I did miss was an above average large 7 point with large mass can't say I would have got him for sure, but I would love to have that shot over! If a deer is on the move you better just shoot the sweet spot double lung 1/4 back from front to back as close as possible. Standing in acorns or over a corn pile at stand still I would still go for double lung sap if I felt like they were not aware of your presence for the average bow hunter. Heart shots if they don't jump are to risky for me anyhow.

I’ve drawn my bow on midwestern deer at 12-15’ off the ground with no cover and them looking at me. You try that in AL and you’ll never pull a shot off on these things.
