I am battling the same problem but it turned out to be big rats instead of squirrels. “the kind of rats you see while cutting hay or bush hogging “ They ate a hole in each side of our porch and got into the attic. I put out the yellow poison you have to break apart in the attic and Killed a bunch of them and they are the worst smelling thing you could imagine. I been having to make a daily trip through the attic to try and find dead rats.  . We didn’t even know that they had moved in until about a week ago we heard one and I found the holes and put the poison out.
