would I be considered a felon if I transferred/loaned a shotgun temporarily to a buddy to use during a dove shoot without first going thru an FFL? if that is legal then can I loan someone a gun for no specified amount of time and charge them a market value security deposit? I need to go to bed....

If they are not immediate family the answer is yes you are committing a felony.

Can you give someone ammo?

If they are not immediate family the answer is yes you are committing a felony. Wow I had no idea? Is this also true if I am with them also? For example 2 gobblers come in, and I shoot one. Then I hand the gun to my hunting partner and he shoots the second one with my gun.

If they are not immediate family the answer is yes you are committing a felony. Show me the law. Only if you knew the person you were loaning the weapon to was not legally allowed to have a gun in their possession, would you be breaking the law. It is no different than the private sale of a firearm between two parties.

^^ what TexasNative said.
If you know or have reason to know that the potential loanee of your firearm is a convicted felon or has some misdemeanor that prohibits possession of a firearm then you should never loan them any firearm.

I know this as fact. You loan a gun to some one and kills some one you can be held liable for it in civil court . Not automatically. It would depend on the facts. And the facts would have to show that the gun loaner knew or had reason to believe the loanee was going to kill someone/use the gun to commit a crime. Like where BillyBob or Quandarious says " I am going to shoot my 'ol lady down, can I borrow your gun?" and Bubba or Rodriquez says "sure, here it is."

I know a guy that lost 100000 buck that loaned a gun to a guy at 2am you hunt with . He killed a guy it and the gun owner lost a civil suit. It was my dumb ass brother in law that they killed

I know this as fact. You loan a gun to some one and kills some one you can be held liable for it in civil court . this is when you deny the accusation remain silent and ask for an attorney no one can prove you loaned a gun anymore than maybe he just stole it from under the bed. 90% of the time talking without council is the downfall of alot of people
