Think about the artillery that dude had in the Vegas hotel a couple years ago. Again, I don't believe he had normal rifles/calibers. Dude had a freaking 50-cal on a tripod. . No he did not. He had a total of 24 guns in that room. -14 were AR15's in .223 -8 were AR10's in .308 -1 was a Ruger American bolt action in .308 -1 was a S&W model 342 revolver in .38 I want a 50-cal and a tripod. One of my best friends has one (owns a shop and manufacturing center). It is a blast to shoot. Expensive, but a blast.

Bruno, google Charles Whitman, 1966 Texas Tower Sniper. His main weapon was a Rem 700 in 6mm. He killed 17. Yeah, I'm old enough that I remember that. I think he had a M1 carbine also. The point I was trying to make is that they don't just want the AR's. They want them all and will use any tragedy to push their agenda. Again, what kind of WEIRDO owns a 6mm????? I've never even heard of 6mm!!! I rest my case. Ikillbux is more of a single barrel guy

Pretty easy to put a list together from comments on here. You know, a list of who you could depend on when SHTF and a list of people that I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

There are a bunch of guys here that wouldn't run towards the sound of gunfire. God help them and any that depend on them. Bruno, he also had a sawed off shotgun , pistols and knives.

IKill: It’s funny how perceptions of each other can drive an opinion of each other’s chosen individual method of participation in a shared hobby. For instance I find someone who is devoted to the sport of hunting, but doesn’t have any desire to eat deer meat, sort of strange. The whole circle of activities that eventually ends in feeding yourself/family is a pretty balanced, normal mindset, while one who is driven just to kill and then abandons the animal to others with no inherent desire to eat what he’s hunted ... pretty weird. But, that’s just me. You obviously don’t feel that way, and appear to be a contributing member of society. I’m not a complete gun kook, but I do enjoy old gun history and such. Apparently that strikes you as unusually odd pastime. I don’t mean anything harsh by all this, but it’s funny how ones emotional take on a situation depends on the perspective of what side of the issue you are in.

M48, I feel the same as you about deer meat consumption. It is some fine eating if prepared properly. I never understood the desire to kill just for the killing. In the case of predators and destructive animals, it's different.

In the case of predators and destructive animals, it's different. I think the only thing my grandaddy wouldn't make you eat was maybe a crow. That was in the 70's though. I see a pile of meat wasted every year.

IKILLBUX I’m not belittling you for your comments or beliefs but aren’t you in the insurance industry? I’m guessing you like me do risk assessments. Here’s a risk assessment question. If the SHTF who would you want having your back? Someone that knows weapons, ammunition and is at the range daily or someone that hunts occasionally if the wind is right?

Do you not think there's a reason AR-15s are designed to look like a "machine gun"? Is there an actual reason for that OTHER than an intentional design to look like something that appeals to THAT kind of person? (and I'm not singling out AR guns, I just don't know enough about them to know any other name they go by).
They don't look like normal hunting guns, they look like military machine guns. Why is that? There's no inherent performance advantage over a traditional style rifle (if so, all traditional hunting rifles would change to look like that) It's appealing to something, and for some reason that appeal seems to be to the weirdest sect of folks. Folks who otherwise show no affinity to "outdoors" things normally associated with guns.
I don't think killers buy those guns because they believe them to be more proficient killing weapons than another, I think the style "sells" them on an image in their own minds, it conjures up some "tough guy" Commando imagery. Think about the artillery that dude had in the Vegas hotel a couple years ago. Again, I don't believe he had normal rifles/calibers. Dude had a freaking 50-cal on a tripod. And again, I'm not against him or you having it, but my spidey-senses are going off when I see it!
I would much rather have a shotgun with buckshot if I was just wickedly intent on going into a crowd and doing damage. You are either a troll or completely ignorant. Your 'traditional' hunting rifles as you call it are variations on the original Mauser 98 rifle, which was used by German and Spanish armies around the world for the better part of the last century. Throughout the history of guns, military weapons and their variants have eventually been adopted for civilian use.

My challenge with the frantic "do something!" mentality is as follows -
The AR-15 is a gas operated semi-automatic. Anything that functionally bans this, also takes out the Remington 742, Browning BAR, Rem 1100, 11-87, Beretta 310, and a host of other hunting guns that are gas operated semi-automatic.
Anything that just bans semi-auto rifles in .22 caliber, bans tens of millions of .22 rimfire rifles.
Now we are down to the "scary looking" guns, which one misinformed soul here already called out, because they "look like machine guns". Who gets to decide what's too "scary looking" to be owned? Is camo "scary"? What about the Punisher logo? Does it qualify?
What about the machine guns or sub-machine guns that LOOK JUST LIKE OTHER GUNS? The Glock 18 is one of the finest sub guns built, and looks almost identical to the Glock 17. Ruger made the Mini-14 and the 10/22 as full auto years ago. Does that put those two in the "scary" category?
The scariest thing to me is folks who have absolutely no clue making decisions about what others are allowed to own.
And specifically addressing the "gun nut" comment, I have always found that highly offensive. How does a man with knowledge of ballistics and weapons characteristics, who collects firearms that he finds interesting, peg your weird-o-meter, but some 35 year old who plays video games obsessively, or a grown man who engages in fantasy sports, or memorizes statistics about sports games, or pays serious money for season tickets to pro sports games, or spends the equivalent of a house on restoring a car that will never be worth what he has in it, is somehow normal?
We all have our own interests. As long as it is a legal activity, maybe you shouldn't pass judgement.

The shootout with the cops in Miami in the 80's had a Mini-14 as the main weapon as I remember that killed 4 armed and ready FBI agents and wounded I think 5 or so. That particular weapon would possess none of the "features" that would make it fit into the category of an Assault Rifle as we want to label an AR-15 with the exception of a detachable magazine... which most hunting rifles currently also possess. However.... Just as deadly as an AR.
These weapons have always been around and accessible. No mass shootings in the 80's really that I can remember.
So where does it stop. It doesn't stop. That's the answer. The goal of the liberals is to take your guns. That's necessary for a socialist government. Only the wealthy in Europe have firearms. They are expensive and the red tape associated with ownership ensures the common citizen does not own a weapon.
