Undoubtedly you and several other people on this thread think it’s very difficult to hit the ball 300 yards. Fact is it’s pretty easy for anyone with today’s technology and a 110+MPH swing speed. I play with a group of guys and several in that group could play tour golf IF they had the money and desire. There’s way more people in the USGA that can play tour level golf than there is actually on tour. In a money game on my home course it’s nothing for 2-3 guys to each have 6-8 birdies per round. Most played some form of collegiate golf and figured out chasing girls was more fun/important than chasing a little white ball around a golf course (myself included).
You can’t really even compare tournament courses with 90% of country clubs around the US. Tournament courses are designed in such a way that hitting ACCURATE tee shots far outweighs extra length. Country Club courses are rather easy by comparison with much wider fairways and less danger in hitting bombs. Of course there are exceptions to every rule. The RTJ courses are set up similar to a tournament level course. Most par 4s have the best angle into the green at roughly 150 yards. That means hitting a 310 yard drive on some and 250 or less on others. The course I play regularly is wide open where “luck favors the bold” and 300+ off the tee helps create scoring opportunities.
Truth, I played for UNA during the mid 80's and hit a Persimmon Driver avg 280 yards. In the 90's I hit a Peerless Pete 300 yards on avg and still did till I quit playing 8 years ago or so. I was out driving some guys hitting metal and I was hitting a Persimmon Peerless Pete. There was a lefty that averaged probably 325 or a bit better and had unreal control. The technology has changed so much it is unreal. Clubs are hot compared to what they used to be. I hit a Ping Driver at Blackberry a few years ago, Greg that worked in the shop had taken it out with us. Not sure of which hole but it was the first par 5 if I recall correctly, large Oak in the center of the fairway about 350 out. I flew the tree and was just short left of the green. Longest tee shot I ever hit and never could match that again. I hit it FLUSH. Greg and his brother Grant ranted and raved about that shot for years. Not many would believe it. The last time I played Cypress Lakes in Muscle Shoals I was driving Par 4 greens with a 4 wood. It's true and not that unrealistic but I do understand some having doubt. I watched some of the PGA tournaments this year and was amazed the distance of irons these days. 200 yard 7 or 8 irons??? Drivers were flying 320-340 and then add roll if and when it rarely happened. Technology has changed a lot things.

I don’t think guys are exaggerating how far they are hitting it. I think they just suck at judging distances. This thread has answered a lot of questions about the distance of shots on deer. I remember back in the late 80’s and early 90’s there was a guy that would frequent the local driving range that could consistently hit it 300+ yards and folks would show up just to watch. But, as stated above, technology has changed a lot.

I don’t think guys are exaggerating how far they are hitting it. I think they just suck at judging distances. This thread has answered a lot of questions about the distance of shots on deer. I can't speak for other guys but but when I play I use a scorecard app instead of pencil and paper scorecard, and it uses GPS to measure distances, so I'm pretty confident my yardage are dead on. I've compared the yardage on the app against scorecards, sprinkler heads, fairway yardage markers, etc...and its usually within a couple of yds.

I’m willing to bet I can hit a baseball further than a golf ball. I went to top golf not to long ago and I suck at golf. Makes 2 of us. My HS baseball coach used to get pissed at us when we tried to play golf horsing around at the local CC. It messed our swings up bad for a few days

Haven't played in a few years. Was doing well to average around 280 I'd guess. I'd muscle up on one and go maybe 320 or more, depending on the hole. Now that I'm in Colorado, I can hit it 20 yards or so more. It's unreal. Distance was never an issue, accuracy was. I'd rather be pinpoint with an iron and putt well any day.

Once I figured out I could score lots of points by just hitting the back net at top golf i quit aiming at holes and just drove the net. However far the bottom half of the net in Huntsville is would be my range.

You drive for show and putt for dough. Looking at Dustin Johnson’s stats. Longest drive this year. 404 yards. Average 311 Considering that most of the long hitters use driving iron and fairway woods off the tee I’d imagine the distances becomes skewed. Driver only distances I didn’t see Considering balata golf balls went the way of the dodo bird when more lively golf balls entered. Slazengers was one golf ball I played that was taken off the market cause it was too hot and created lots of backspin. We played an invitational at U of A in Tuscaloosa, I was paired with a guy that absolutely crushed it. He was 30 to 50 yards further off the tee than the others in the group. Our score cards revealed you drive for show and putt for dough.

I average right around 300. I can hit it 350+ but I can’t always control it. No,... you don’t With all due respect Why do you say that’s? Unless we’ve met on the course you have no clue as to how I can play or my background. I hit a 3 wood 275 and a 4 iron 220. I also play with guys who are much longer and much shorter than me and both outplay me on a regular basis. Different folks have different skillsets. If you never saw me shoot a handgun, you wouldn't believe what I told you. Joshm28 has, so he wouldn't bet against me. I just have no desire to compete, nor the time to get the last 5-10% of the speed I would need to place in a real tournament. If I knew he would take it seriously instead of being an a$$hole and laughing because I lost my money, I would bet anyone on here $1000 that Joshm28 can hit a golf ball over 300 yards. Pro golf is won by the short game, not the drive distance.

375 on a good day 550 when I can control it. (trying to one up, everyone else)

All depends on whether I actually hit the ball or not.

“Averaging 300” is what I was referencing, and again, I meant no offense by it. I’m sure you hit it a mile, like a lot of guys I play with. Just from a math standpoint, for every one you “only hit 280” you need to hit one 320 to maintain a 300 average drive. Very difficult to do You might do it, like you said, what course you play has a lot to do with it.
