Oh man, there are so many Bluegill in there. I found the breeding circles for Bluegill, looked like over 100 of them. I try to feed the catfish but the swarms of Bluegill eat most of it. I fish the bluegill, but I need to get some of them out

Uhmmm. You do know you don’t “need” to take any bluegill out. The bass will regulate the population. Now if you “want” to take some out there is a difference

The fisheries people used to tell us to keep every bream you caught and catch as many as possible to keep them from overpopulating the pond. I have fished with people who threw every small bream up on the bank, and they were doing it on the advice of an expert they were paying to manage the pond. It never made sense to me.

Has the fisheries world abandoned this practice completely now?

I think my pond does better if I take some bass out every year, but I rarely catch any bream.
