I work 4 on 4 off 12 hour shift. I have worked some form of shift work for the past 15 years. I have worked every schedule out there and all shift work schedules suck, but the 4 on 4 off is the best.

5- 8's

If I had any more time off my wife would need to take a second, and possibly 3rd job to keep up with my spending.

From what I’ve seen, crews working 5-8’s are more productive than 4-10’s.

Studies have shown that they aren’t, and DOE sites have been doing it for decades.

If you have young kids and married, I'd prefer 5-8s.

Back in the late 80's thru the mid 90's I worked a 7-day 8 hr swing shift. It's very hard on the body. Especially the transition from nights to days. We switched to a 12 hr shift where you had a week off every month but you were on call during that week. It was better, but when I went to straight days back in late 90's, I've never looked back and feel for those who work it. It's hard. Consider I work 9-10 hrs daily but get paid for 8 (salary). I would definitely be open to 4-10's if it was offered.

I came, I saw, so I killed them all......Vern
