I think it was the summer of 1980, we had several days of 100+ degree days in Mississippi and I was hauling hay (wheat straw during June). Then we stacked it in a barn loft. We had to toss the hay up to a person above us. The wheat straw/chaff would float back down and stick wherever it landed because of the sweat. I don't know how hot the loft was, but it actually felt cool when we got down and back to the 100 degree shade of the barn.


The summer of 1980 is what all others are judged by in the mid-west and southeast, brutal and relentless . 2007 was pleasant compared to '80. Many farmers went broke that year.
