Looks like ol Bud may have been right. Michigan has jumped on them quick I’m thinking that I may be wrong about a Northern baseball team after talking to a college baseball coach last week that also played six years in the minors. He told me that typically talented teams from the North can hit the ball really well but might not be as strong defensively. Reason being is because of the weather. He said that a team like Michigan spends the majority of their practice time at the indoor batting facility because of the cold temperatures plus the rain and snow that they have to deal with in the spring. Defensively it hurts them because they lack practice time on the field where they encounter bad hops from the natural playing surface as opposed to artificial grass indoors fielding. But occasionally you come across that team that is talented on both aspects like this Michigan team is. Makes sense to me.
