Didn’t hear a peep at daylight. Pulled out from first spot at about 6:30. Went to another part of our club where I heard somevthis past weekend. I walked up this road for probably 1/2 mike calling every 100 yards or so. 8:45 hits and still no gobbled. Now the wind has picked up and my hopes are fading fast of hearing anything. I decide to take a side road off of this main road and do the same walking and calling hoping to fire one up. I get all the way to the end of the road and throw a Hail Mary. I get a response, but because of the wind, I wasn’t sure where he was. I take about 10 steps, and I hear him drum!! I soft yelp to him again and he’s no more than 50 yards in a deep bottom below me. I quickly find a spot nestled in some briars and get set up. I didn’t hammer him with calls. I would softly yelp to let him know where I was. I would do this this every minute or so. Every time I called, he would respond and I could tell he was flanking me to my left. He then sounded like he had hung up below me, so I gave him the silent treatment for 5 minutes. After that, I called and he almost knocked my hat off. He had come all the way around to my left and was just off the road. I look down the road and could see him coming up the hill to the road. He stepped out in the road at 45 yards and the rest is history.
