Negotiating a reasonable price and threatening a tantrum for not getting your way, with your overpriced self worth, are two completely different things. The latter makes you look like a childish, greedy prick. Sure, negotiating is a part of the game, but basically demanding to be treated like royalty rarely ever works in their favor. Papelbon thought highly of himself too and look where it got him.

Kimbrel was less than stellar all throughout the postseason and teams took note. Alex Cora went with Chris Sale, who wasn’t completely healthy, over Kimbrel because he didn’t have the confidence in Kimbrel to put him in with a 4 run lead to close out the World Series. That really screams “I’m worth my ludicrous asking price.”
