I just wanted everyone to know this. I attended a funeral in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee last week. During the funeral procession to the cemetery we passed several hundred vehicles. I believe 99% pulled off to the side of the road or stopped completely in the road with their lights and flashers on as we passed by. Now this wasn't just on two-lane roads it was also on four-lane divided roads. I was very impressed by the respect that the people up there had for the dead and I was moved. This was the way it used to be in Alabama when I was younger but these days when you see a funeral procession you also see vehicles just passing on by and, on occasion, vehicles pulling into the procession that have no business being there. What happened to respect folks? I think people just don't care anymore or aren't taught any better but I'll say this: Whenever I see a funeral procession passing by I will surely stop and turn my lights on out of respect for those who have passed on! I hope all of you do the same.

Remember, wherever you go that's where you are.

haleyville al,
That must be a jasper thing. Everywhere around jasper does. I’m not 20 minutes north of y’all and still see people stop.

Most everybody stops here.

My wife and I picked up garbage on our neighborhood, subdivision road while we walked the dog
this AM (Baldwin Co.). People have no respect for other people, or even themselves.
People are just sorry.

Most people stop around here. I have seen people stop mowing yards.

I've always seen people stop.

However, if I die and we come rolling through, you guys can keep mowing or driving or whatever, I don't think I'll care grin

I don't think I will either but like funerals and wakes, it's for the living they leave, not for the dead.

A funeral passed me today as I was on vacation having lunch in Fort Payne. We were on the main drag through town and everyone pulled over including myself and I used it as a teaching moment to my kids in the back seat as I removed my hat and set it on the dash. I’ll tell you this if this wouldn’t have been the main road (scared to get hit by a car) I would have stepped out and bowed my head. There is no respect in the world. Sure the deceased didn’t know any different, but the family, kids, and relatives sure knew the difference. What bothered me was the people that evidently pulled out into the procession because they were making right turns out of the funeral line, without lights on of course.

My grandmother's funeral was last week. Same thing people not stopping, pissed me off. I think it's partically all the friggin Yankees and left wingers moving into north AL due to the job market. Its also partly Alabamaians not being proud of being southern anymore therefore the southern hospitality and morals/respect has gone down the drain. Just as the Democraps want it to be.

Went to my wife's Uncles a funeral a few years ago in Memphis. Big John was a WWII Veteran and loved by many. As we followed we had some democratic folks try and pass the funeral procession in the left hand lane. The motorcycle LEOs put hem on the shoulder fast so that they never were never seen by the immediate family. All lanes were blocked and we all were saluted as everyone entered the cemetery. It was as nice send off for him, the wife and I felt privileged to be there.

I always stop and take my hat off when a procession approaches.

Its good to stop for funerals, but not good to stop anytime you see an ambulance or fire truck. alot of yankees stop at the first sighn of an ambulance and end up slowing it down.

I was raised to pull over, stop and turn the radio off for every funeral.

I got caught in one before. That was awkward. It always reminds me of the scene from Smokey and the bandit.
