The top team in each conference attracts the top talent in that region. When that team wins the conference, then that team can recruit the entire US map and attract the best of the best. This is why we see the same teams in the top 10 every year. The exception is the QB - the game manager. A great QB can win given average coaching and/or players.
The real question is, AU went to the Natty in Gus' 1st year in 2013. Why did they go 8-5 in 2014, and then 7-6 in 2015. AU did not capitalize on recruiting nor attracting higher-level coaching staff. That is 100% on AU leadership and Gus.

Auburn has never had back to back 10 win seasons in the history of their football program. Chew on that for a minute. They are the model of inconsistency. 1988-1989 both 10 win seasons. Not saying we aren't inconsistent, but be careful saying words like never.
