i'm with limb. i don't like that the roman church came up with december 25 as a "birth" date, in order to match up with a major pagan rite on the winter solstice. i don't like the use of pagan fertility symbols to decorate churches. i don't like the works theology of belief in santa claus.
and Jesus did not establish His birth as a sacrament. He never mentioned it.

BUT, luke saw fit to use the story of His and john's births to establish key bona fides for Jesus' lineage, further, establishing the world-changing importance of Immanuel, and how He came to be with us on earth. if we scrooges remember this, then we can live with the other stuff, while "suffering" silently ... smile
