Cutover that’s 2-3 years old is my absolute favorite place to be from the time gun season opens until it closes. I see more bucks there than anywhere else, and they’re usually oblivious to everything around them because they feel secure. They will usually hit the cutovers on the low side near hardwood drains, thickets or ditches and make their way through after day light, feeding as they go, and bedding early morning on the top 3rd of the slope. They’ll get back up late morning to mid day and feed more and stretch their legs. It’s also a great place to find a dominant buck that’s pushed a hot doe into a thicket. He will stay right by her side all day. I get high, NEVER low. Hunt as high on a ridge top as possible. A cold, clear and windy day is best. Use your binos a lot. Sometimes all you’ll catch is antlers and you’ll have to follow that deer for quite a while before it hits an area you can shoot. Sometimes they’ll also drop and bed or disappear right score you. It’s amazing how they can disappear or appear seemingly out of nowhere.

Here’s a few I’ve seen this year.

Cool picks mbrock. Is that a feeder on the hill above that buck. Looks like one those old stump feeders they use to make.

Not a feeder anywhere near those two spots. And if there was a prudent person wouldn’t post it on line. Lol.

We don’t have any shooting houses in our cutovers to my knowledge.

If you can get at the woods line looking at a cutover hill, you should be able to see deer better.
