Thanks again to Roger Barnhill and his dog Copper for a quick recovery yesterday.
My 7 yo son shot his first buck yesterday evening on a food plot around 5 pm. After feeling good about the shot and hearing the deer crashing we set out to trail the deer. We looked in the field where the deer was standing and found no evidence of where the deer left the field. In a bit of a panic I did a few sweeps thru the area where I thought I last heard him. Thirty minutes later we have gone from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows. I knew that if I wanted to find this deer and not have to recover in the morning then I would need some help. I contacted a tracker that I had previously used and knew that this was our best chance for a recovery. Roger was excited to hear the story and was meeting me on location about an hour later. It didn’t take Copper long to begin following the trail and we let her go free. Within 5 minutes Copper had stopped and we had a feeling she had located the deer. Sure enough Copper made a beeline to the deer and we were all high fiving.
I never knew how gratifying it was to experience your son’s first buck until yesterday. This will go down as one of the greatest moments I have ever experienced as a father. I am very grateful for Roger and his willingness to come help us in a pinch. Roger added to the experience and taught my son everything that he was doing throughout the process. My son has been talking nonstop about Roger and Copper and the amazing night we had. I would highly recommend using Roger if you are in South Alabama. His contact info is on the list of trackers that is pushpinned.
The buck ended up being a big bodied 7 pt and was larger than we had thought. I would appreciate if someone could post pics for me. I can text them. 251-200-2365. Thanks

The deer was hit straight thru the front shoulders but a little far forward where it missed the lungs and heart. The deer went a total of about 40 yards but got in some thick pines with waist high sage grass and vines.
