I get a flu shot every year. I have not had the flu in probably 22 years and I work in an emergency room where I am obviously exposed to people who do have it every year. Is it perfect is it full proof? No. They have to estimate what strains are going to be most prevalent because these things have to be prepared well in advance of flu season. Sometimes they're wrong. But one thing I will say is utter bull crap that seems to be suggested every time this subject comes up is this notion that the flu shot can give you the flu. It cannot. That's just horse pucky. I also stand firmly by my belief that many people get a bad cold and think they had the flu. The flu is a whole other level of sick from a bad cold.

I'll have one soon. It only took me one year of missing it when they came around to the PD to give to all that wanted them, and getting the full blown flu to cause me to never miss another one. I was death warmed over for about a week.....miserable and never again if I can help it.

As to the shot giving you the flu....If I take two tylenol, I'm fine. If I don't I feel a little run down but functional. That sure beats a week of welcoming death if it comes.

I only got the flu when i got the shots it seemed. Heck no. Made me feel sick for 2 days also. They can keep that crap

I get the shot every year due to being a nurse. I’ve worked in healthcare 20 yrs and have never gotten the flu. People don’t understand that the flu shot is not a guaranteed thing. It only DECREASES your chance of gettting the flu by 50%. And that’s if they get it right. There are a lot of viral illnesses that are flu like (flu is a virus) that have the same symptoms and make you feel the same. There isn’t a vaccination for those.

Wash your hands or use purell and be conscious of what you’re touching. That’s the best thing to do.

for the medical folks. Seems like i heard a few years ago on the news, that the live virus is given to children. In an inhaler or something (not the shot) is that true?

Several years ago, I was doing some work at a dr's office across from the medical center in dothan. One day it was packed and busy all day. I asked what was up, they said giving out flu vaccine. About 2 weeks later. They was packed again. I asked "flu vaccine again? they said "naw, its the flu"

just seems awfully coincidental that you dont hear nothing about the flu till they start passing out the vaccines.

5th grade teacher here. I get one every year. On top of that I never touch my face unless I wash my hands first then wash them after. That has really helped. I bet i wash my hands 100 times a day.
