I've never understood that, Blackjack oak is a red and the leaves sure don't look pointed to me.

I still think the tree/bark shown is a white oak , could possibly be a chinkapin , they are very similar . The leaves look to be scarlet or pin oak.



All red oak species will have bristles on the end of the leaf. Water oak and willow oak are red oaks as well and have rounded lobes. As already stated, the leaves and acorns definitely didn’t come from the tree pictured.
