How high do you get up a tree? I climbed to about 20 ft, and the deer I saw, when they got about 60 yds away, one just looked up at me, up went the flag, and they ran.

I go up as far as a feel safe. That is normally pushing 30 feet or better. I try to climb as high as possible to avoid sight detection. If climbing a tall pine, I will go up until I get into some limbs that I don't feel like cutting. The higher the better is my opinion.

When the leaves are still on the trees I like to get in some cover instead of just sitting in a tree out in the open. I like some branchs and leaves around me to hide my outline. I killed two does this weekend on consecutive days from the same tree. I am only about 16-18ft high but I am exceptionally well covered by branchs and leaves. I had a good 15 deer come by that tree this weekend some of them right under me and not one of them busted me. I know for sure if I would have been about 30ft high right out in the open I would have been busted by the majority of these deer. It took me a little while to figure it out but once I stared learning how to set up in cover I stared killing a lot more deer twocents

Depends on the location, topography, and cover. I generally get no less than 20', most are 22-26'. I always place the stand on the opposite side of the tree that I think deer will approach from. That way I can get away with some movement while the deer approach or feed, and I can draw my bow or raise my gun behind the tree, and then lean out slowly to take aim. I almost never get seen in the tree.

50 ft avg eek Do you understand lengths of measurement? That is sky scraping high for an average. You must have several super tall skinny pines in your area.

I average 25-35 feet per climb depending on the tree and landscape.

I don't get high in trees. That's not safe and it's illegal. laugh laugh

But I like to climb to about 25 - 30' if there aren't any limbs or cover around me.

If you get too high while bow hunting, it will give you a bad angle on most shots, making it harder to get a double lung shot. Also giving you less room for error. I like to be around 20' but with some cover.

With a bow it's all about cover. It takes alot of movement to draw a bow so you should ALWAYS use cover as much as possible twocents

With a bow i'll take cover over height anyday

YALL ARN'T GOING TO BELIVE ME, But I have killed more deer with a bow from the ground than I have in a tree. Make sure you have your wind in check and get fully camo. It doesn't matter if i'm in a tree or on the ground just blend in.

I agree, I like to climb 17-20 feet and be behind the tree when deer approach. Unless I am on a field, in that case at least 25' high. I have cut branches from around my stand and brush myself in during early season when the tree canopy in thick woods prevents you from climbing very high. I shot 2 bucks last year in bow season, 1 from 8 feet high the other about 15 feet high. Both cases I climbed as high as the tree would let me and had good cover and shot the deer at 20 yards and 13 yards respectively.

I love to sit facing tree, I have a climber I can do that in. My only problem is safety harness dont cooperate real well that way.
