Just wondering if anyone has ever filed a claim on a hunting liability policy like the insurance offered through Alabama Forest Association? I’m hunting on my own land with an occasional guest. Just wondering if it’s worth the premium. Think my premium would be $300-400/year. Does anyone have any experience good or bad?

I may have been under a rock, but what does a hunting policy cover?

I think it's actually liability insurance. It's required in our lease, handled by the property owner and he adds the bill to the lease cost and sends us a copy of the policy every year.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

When some peckerwood you invite to your land shoots himself then turns around and sues you. Tree stand falls, etc. along with other things

Yes liability. Just thinking about something stupid happening. Had it 10 years ago and dropped it. Wondering if anyone had made a claim. Someone posted that your home owners had to pay their limit before hunt liability kicks in

I saw quite a few claims in my timber company days. One or two were substantial.

I had my own lease for several years and read all the fine print. I'd rather be safe than sorry. It will cover jackass poachers to if by chance they get hurt trespassing. I know what you're gonna say. But yeah, they can sue as well. I would have it on any lease.

I don’t know how it works on people getting hurt on the property, but I can tell you if you light a match to burn a little growth in the middle of a foodplot and it jumps over the next day and burns up 500 acres of land, the insurance doesn’t pay until after they wipe out the home insurance of the fire starter

If you’re in s club with hunting insurance, don’t burn the land owners timber down or they are coming after your home owners insurance first, not the hunting insurance

Does that include lightning strikes?

It’s a damn shame that everyone is out to sue somebody. These scum sucking shunnarahs and slocumbs have forced everyone to become a f’n lawyer just to go hunting.

Yep, the lawyers will attach any and all homeowners or business insurance first. I don't think it is very valuable, but most timber companies require it.

foldemep is referring to “rights of subrogation”. Those terms are in every hunting liability policy ever written. Basically, it means the insurance company will exhaust “all other forms of applicable insurance” before paying on the claim. And, as he and I both know, a person’s homeowner’s policy is considered an “applicable form of insurance”.

That’s exactly why most leases require a member list.

This is what I’ve heard and am trying to verify. They sure don’t mention this in any available advertising or literature. Seems pretty useless to me if all other liability insurance is primary
