I've bow hunted for years but just recently bought a crossbow. I got a really good deal on it and figured I would try it. It also allows me to get into the woods earlier with my 6 year old. I was actually shooting the other day and he sat with me. I'd aim, he'd pull the trigger..... worked great (bulls eye three straight times). But I was wondering whats the best broad head for it. I shoot mechanical with my traditional bow but wasn't sure if thats the best way to go with the crossbow. Thanks for any help

Same broadhead I always used with my bow. Muzzy 100 grain 3 blade.

Same broadhead I always used with my bow. Muzzy 100 grain 3 blade. x2 I bought a few packs at Walmart at end of season a couple of years ago. They work fine.

standard 100grain slick tricks for regular and NAP spit fires are about the best for a crossbow they wont open in flight like alot of others will a crossbow produces alot of kinetic energy in a short stroke so it will open some mechanicals as soon as you pull the trigger. you dont need to buy anything specially labeled for a crossbow its all the same stuff usually different packaging youll get a better blood trail with the spitfires than the tricks but they both fly field point accurate

I've had great consistency with 100 grain 2" Swhackers. They fly straight and true paired with Gold Tip bolts.

Ramcat makes one specifically for Xbows.

I've shot Rages, Slick Tricks and NAP's out of mine and wasn't happy with any of them.... especially the Rage's. I know someone is about to pop a gasket because I badmouthed Rage. I think they are good broadheads but just can't handle the speeds of modern crossbows to deploy effectively. That's just a theory to explain away the lack of performance I got out of them.
At a friends suggestion I swapped to Grim Reapers a few years back and every deer I have shot with them has fallen within sight with the exception of one and I didn't hit it great. I still recovered the deer though.
TIFWIW.
