What makes this conversation funny is that I would estimate that 95% of the people in this thread are descended from illegal immigrants from Europe.
Just as you suggest, I'm descended from illegal immigrants. In the 1700s my poor, soon-to-be-hillbilly ancestors got off the boat and began walking eastward toward the mountains. There was no more citizenship procedure than that. My people, trying to keep from starving to death, didn't do a thing different from most illegal immigrants today.
