Talk to Mr. Wahl. With the guides they supply you have to try pretty hard to screw it up. I don't have good luck with them(using the guards) either, cause my goatee grows in different directions lol. Being that I'm pushing 60, I get that in my eyebrows.  Well I don't have that problem just yet, you have about 23 years on me However I do get a straggler from time to time lol..
Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!
