My son will be turning 2 in a couple of months, and I want to go ahead and buy him a lifetime hunting/fishing license before he hits the rate hike at age 2. Have any of you done this for a young child? I'm not seeing an option to do it online.

I haven’t but need too. My boy is 4 now, I should have done it before the first rate hike. I think the next increase is at age 11.

Did it when my two boys were 3 and 5 before I moved from Alabama. If I remember right it was $575 each or something like that. Oldest is now 20 and youngest is 18. With them living in FL and being subject to out of state license fees, that money is already paid back with interest on the oldest and will pay back on the younger one this year. Great long term investment.

Only problem that I had was when they came out with GameCheck, I could not get them a GC # because in Bama's ridiculously stupid system, the licenses are not tracked by lifetime license number or by license holder's name. They are tracked by Drivers license number, so since they naturally did not have DLs at age 5 and 3, they were not in the system to be updated. G&F personnel were very helpful and it took a while and I had to send in copies of their Lifetime Licenses along with copies of their Drivers Licenses and they got it updated in the system and new ones issued with the GC # on them. I think I had to pay $10 each for them to do that or something like that. If it wasnt for Chuckie check, it would have been a seemless and flawless deal from purchase to finish.

You can’t easily do it online. Call the lady in Montgomery and mail birth certificate etc in.

GC #?? They sent me a new license but it doesn't have a GC # on it. The Hunters Digest also says it's suppose to be on there.

I should have been clearer in my explanation. It's actually not a game check number. The way it was explained to me was that the old lifetime licenses did not have enough digits in the license number to work on GC. A new lifetime license number was issued with the correct # of digits so it works with Chuckie Check. The lady you need to talk to in Montgomery is Kristen Brophy. 334-242-3465. She's who worked with me on it and she was super nice and very helpful throughout the process.

I just did mine in December before my son turned 2. Was easy as could be.

I bought both my boys one when they were $400. Went to courthouse. For me that’s easier than fooling with the internet.

I bought both of mine theirs for Christmas. I just went to the license office at the court house. It was easy to get the papy work filled out and I received the hard copy in a few weeks. Had to take their birth certificate and SS card if I remember correctly.

just bought my son's this week...since he is young and no real proof of residence we were required to provide a copy of our drivers license and the page on our tax returns that showed him as a dependant...goes up after they turn two and not again til twelve..

Get it while they're young for sure. I got mine right out of college in 85. I believe it was $175. Best gift I've ever received.

I came, I saw, so I killed them all......Vern

My two were older than that when I bought theirs. We had to go to the license office to do it.

Just something to think about he may not like to hunt or fish like we do. I thought about buying my son's lifetime when he was little but dad laid that on me.

When he's a little older and still likes to hunt and fish then I'll get him his lifetime

We will burn that bridge when we get there

That's a good point. You try to raise your younguns right but sometimes they go a different direction. My oldest son turned Bammer on me and I know I raised him better!

Yep, that’s pretty much my logic.
