Question............my understanding is the host country automatically "qualifies" for the WC. But the 2026 WC is a joint deal between the US, Canada and Mexico. Does that mean all 3 automatically qualify or is one of the 3 considered the actual "host country"?

The FIFA Council makes the final determination, which everyone associated with the bid acknowledged, but Gulati and Canada's Victor Montagliani made it clear they expect all three to earn spots.
The 2026 cup will be the first to have 48 teams instead of 32. United States will host a large majority (75%) of the games.
