I usually use olive oil a lot for grilling and in my salad. My daughter-in-law told me the other day. That I should stop buying the cheap olive oil from Walmart and buy some good oil. I did this and to be honest it taste the same to me. Isn't olive oil just olive oil. Who knows the difference?

It's the quality of olives they use, along with how it's handled during processing. Extra virgin olive oil will always be better than just regular olive oil.

We don't use olive oil any more. We use canola or corn oil mostly. Once you cook olive oil, it pretty much negates the health benefits of it, so we use the cheaper cousins.

I have the best blood numbers and ratios in both the Military and VA systems, for any adult age group, in the whole world. Avocado oil is the one to use. I also don’t eat nightshade vegetables. I learned this from Tom Brady the quarterback.

Settin myself up for more guff. beers

Different oils have different purposes.

It used to be that Vegetable oil was the way to go and everyone used it. It can be a combination of several plant based oils.

Then Canola oil was super popular. Canola, Vegetable, corn, etc... Oils are all very similar and can withstand relatively high temperatures, but many are processed using all sorts of dubious chemicals in my opinion.

I like Peanut oil and/or good old fashioned lard for frying potatoes such as French fries. We also use it in Asian dishes.

If' I'm searing steak or pan frying something at a very high temp then I will use Avocado oil it has a super high smoke point.

I never use regular olive oil, as I think that it is way over processed. We only keep Extra Virgin Cold Pressed olive oil around the house and mainly use it for salad dressings, dipping bread, and in marinades for meat and vegetables. It has a very strong flavor which may not be desirable in some dishes.

We also use butter or Extra Virgin coconut oil when pan sauteing because of the flavors and the color that butter provides.

We use a lot of sesame oil when cooking Asian style foods. It has a great aroma and flavor.

It has the best health benefits of all oils. My HDL (Healthy) is 93, my LDL (bad) is 24 for a total Cholesterol of 117. My triglycerides are 53.

I consume at least five tablespoons a day of avacado oil, and now so do my doctors. (I’m an old man)

The docs even had me substitute oils and watched my blood progress, other oils except extra virgin olive oil affected the numbers negatively, even the best coconut oil was bad.

So, throw the rest of the oils in the trash and eat Avocado oil and real butter!

Standard mild, or even medium EVOO is not flavorful enough for me. I like the "Robust" versions better. My daughter just got back from a trip to Greece. She brought me back a small tin can of olive oil. It is absolutely amazing. Typically , the darker in color that olive oil is, the more flavor it has.

I'll check out the avacado oil.
