saw my first fawn this evening, born last night or this morning. Pretty small.

That's like an early to mid November conception isn't it? Or is my math off?

Bucks are breeding from the time the they begin to grow velvet.
It's not an early rut, it's the breeding season.
Deer don't know what "rut" means.
When you have too many deer, particularly does, you won't notice it.
Kill them does, and you'll begin to see that breeding activity.

Fawn sightings means it's time to break out the shovels.

found a dead very small fawn yesterday, no tore up or anything, prolly 3-4 pounds.

Saw another one this am early, I think it is the same one I found the other day, maybe 30 yards from that spot.

my trained roadrunner keeps the yotes at bay, or at least confused. The 243 handles the rest of them.

central ala,
Unfortunately, I saw 2 coyote pups this morning. WAG I'd say 4-6 weeks old. All I had was a 2x4 and couldn't get to them before they got in the briars. Do they have their little ones like deer, normally at a given time frame each year?

I'd guess about the time fawns are dropping or just before for the increased food available.

central ala,
Our fawns normally are born end of August into Sept. I would think if I knew more about if and when coyote have a breeding season and if there is a time frame for births it would increase my chances on taking more out.

Saw one at Ft. McClelland last night with its mom. Little thing was already pushing 3 ft tall and was keeping up with its mama hawling tail across the golf course!!
