I can assure you that no police officer in this state is getting that under RSA. The highest I know was making about 90K per year (he claimed A LOT of overtime) and retired with 35 years service and is drawing a little over 4K/month. And no, it is not me. I'm not in that ballpark.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I wonder if the news just checked a one month salary or if they checked an entire year salary. He could only be making 50 but the news checked the one month where he got the biggest check.

In the FRS, the Florida retirement system, you can retire in the special risk class with twenty five years of service regardless of age if you were hired before 7/1/2011. At 25 years you get 75% of your salary based on your highest five years of service. You can pad your retirement with overtime. Peterson was making more than fifty thousand a year base salary. The County I retired from a topped out Deputy along with longevity makes about 77k a year. Most South Florida agencies pay well!

He's the one has to face the man in the mirror every morning from now on, so.... That's under the assumption he's got a sense of right/wrong. He very easily could instead be thinking MONEY MONEY MONEY. Hmm book deal. Hmm some TV appearances. Oh ya I've got $8K coming my way in another 30 days.

Oh, I'm sure he'll think money money money...but conscience comes to visit when it's quiet and there's no one else there to drown it out.

Oh, I'm sure he'll think money money money...but conscience comes to visit when it's quiet and there's no one else there to drown it out. That’s right - he’ll revisit that day for the rest of his life. If it hasn’t already started, it will eventually eat him up.

I wish I had started a high risk job not long out of high school. I'm in FRS @1.6% a year. At 33 years, I'll be getting 52.8% of not a whole lot. Though it is better than relying on just SS and investments.

Don't matter what the numbers are, someone is always upset that someone else is making more money than they are. That's not it at all. That sack of shucks dropped the ball when it mattered most. Most of society gets fired when they drop the ball and doesn't get $8,000 a month to watch the ceiling fan. My goal in 5 years is to have $100,000 of salary in the first 2 quarters of the year and my opinion of that deputy would be just the same.
